About Us

Since the first Peace Corps volunteers arrived in Fiji in 1968, over 1,500 men and women of all ages and backgrounds served in Fiji.  They worked as school teachers, advisors to the Government, Small Business Advisors, fisheries developers and in a host of other capacities.  In addition to their primary assignments, these volunteers also elected to pursue secondary projects that directly benefited their local communities.

Friends of Fiji offers its members a periodic news-letter and a bi-annual fundraiser to benefit projects in Fiji.  The newsletter contains news articles relating to Fiji politics, economy, tourism and the latest headlines as well as information on Peace Corps and Peace Corps Fiji reunions and other events.

Former Fiji Peace Corps volunteers and staff formed the Friends of Fiji as a way to continue their connection to a place they learned to love and to the people they learned to respect.

Today, the Friends of Fiji welcomes not only former Peace Corps volunteers and staff who served in Fiji, but anyone else with an interest in the country and who consider themselves a 'Friend of Fiji'.

Friends of Fiji continues to seek out former Peace Corps volunters that served in Fiji. The Fiji Peace Corps program was suspended in 1998, but re-entered Fiji with new Peace Corps programs in 2003. While there are currently no new returning volunteers, it is even more critical that we expand our membership rolls by contacting former volunteers. Peace Corps has served Fiji for over 3 decades with more than 1,500 volunteers. The recent political events in Fiji bring home the message that we must stay connected to this country that offered and gave so much to so many. Please join Friends of Fiji.
